Shavuot--The Celebration of Receiving the Word of God

The Feast of Pentecost or Shavuot is a harvest festival of important symbolism. The connections seen between the infilling of the disciples with the power of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 and the giving of the Word of God at Mt. Sinai cause us to celebrate God's Word given to His people. We can all say in unity, "We will do and we will hear!"

Waiting Without Knowing

We are often in places of waiting that we don't understand. We don't realize we are waiting, we think we are living our lives the best we can. But God has us in the waiting room, whether we know it or not. What we do there, determines what our experience is. Jeremiah writes a letter that reveals this purpose in a challenging way.

When we wait on God, it is not a passive experience, it is acted and connected with movement. Moses was an example of active waiting. The preparation in the waiting was essential to the fulfillment of his calling. Moses was prepared to be in the front, in the back and on the side. His waiting was preparation for his fulfilling.

Key Verses: Ps. 24:3; Isa. 40:31; Ps. 130:5; Ps. 90:12; Acts 7:20-25; Ps. 62:5

Finish It!

When we find ourselves in a place of desperation, we often times say "I'll do anything" to get out of it. But will we? Carrying out until the end is sometimes a challenging task. Naaman was desperate. In order to be healed, he was told to do something that would be humbling for him. His completion of the task would bring about his healing and rescue him from his sin. But it required him to carry it through to the end.

Key Verses: 2 Kings 5:1-14 ;Prov. 14:12; James 4:6; Matth. 21:28-31

The Prayer of Jabez -- Part 1

Jabez was a man who lived among idolatry and rebelliousness. In the middle of this, he prays a bold prayer that asks for blessing, expansion & protection. And God answers him! Did you know that we can pray and ask God for the same thing? So, what stops you?
